MADONNA

Marilyn Monroe. A George Vreeland Hill post.

MARILYN

It took me a few to figure out which was which from the above photoshoots!

TWO DIAMOND LOVING MATERIAL GIRLS!

Madonna never made a secret of how she loved to copy Marilyn in the 1980s.  This a look back on how the style one huge icon influenced another.

THE FAMOUS WHITE DRESS!

Marilyn loved to accidentally step on air vents and whoops – the skirt would fly up at the nearest and very intrigued male passing by.

Madonna — Madonna on set of Vogue, 1990

Madonna used a very similar dress in her video Vogue.  She even mentions Marilyn’s name in the song.  “Greta Garbo and Monroe. They had style, they had grace…”

THE OVERSIZED SWEATER ON THE BEACH

Both well done and lovely photo shoots.  Both managed to make warm sweaters look sexy and provocative at that early time of the evening when the beach gets plain chilly!

How cute are these tops?  Weirdly enough I just found two similar in my closet that I never noticed that I had.  I was quite stoked!

POSING IN NEW YORK

Often mistaken for being a vintage photo of Marilyn, this is actually model Eva Herzigova, in a 1992 Guess ad photographed by Ellen von Unwerth.

Personally, I would never have the courage to try and look sexy while standing anywhere near the edge of tall buildings.  I doubt I could focus on both that and not falling!  This reminds me almost of early Skywalking.  However,  I do love these artistic shoots.

Madonna really did do a fabulous job imitating Marilyn in this video.  Maybe better than Marilyn herself!

ICONIC WHITE DRESS NUMBER 2

The beautiful Marilyn Monroe

I’m about to start writing a “who wore it better” at this point.  Here, Marilyn!  Wasn’t a huge fan of Madonna in that dress or even the dress period!

Both Marilyn and Madonna have quite a collection of gorgeous prancing by the water beach shoots!

RAUNCHY RED

Marilyn Monroe and Elvis

Without a doubt, red has to be about the boldest and eye-catching of colors.  That combined with the platinum blonde hair, Madonna and Marilyn made sure they never went without being the center of attention.

The-Hot-Looking-Marilyn-Monroe

Regardless of “who wore it better”, Madonna nailed Marilyn’s style. And being Madonna, five minutes later she was on to her next iconic look!
